Last month I co-hosted a College Night with representatives from Illinois State University: Jana Albrecht from the Office of Financial Aid and Aston Karner, an Admissions Counselor. Over 30 people attended the event, with a nice mix of parents of elementary and high school students.
We covered a wide range of topics ranging from saving for college to hunting for scholarships. The presentation was very interactive and the parents asked some great questions. Common questions included:
How do grandparents and relatives gift to a 529 plan?
What is the difference between an UTMA and a 529 plan?
Why is the inflation rate for college tuition greater than US inflation?
How are the interest rates calculated for federal loans?
When should you complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)?
